Undated Broadcasts Project — 2,000 Broadcasts Resolved Milestone
With the completion of This update (50 broadcasts, Sequences 988 through 1037), the master undated broadcast resolution project achieves a major historical milestone: 2,039 broadcasts fully dated, titled, contextualized, and resolved across 41 consecutive updates.
Covering the winter 1932 daily broadcast sequence of Cecil and Sally (starring Johnny Patrick and Helen Troy) from January 11 through March 8, 1932, this cohort resolves Episodes 631 through 680.
This sequence highlights several of the program's most celebrated farcical storylines:
- The Cedar Chest Stakeout: Sally's amateur espionage plan has Cecil crammed inside a mothproof cedar chest for two hours until he nearly suffocates in mothballs.
- The Church Play Backstage Brawl: Cecil's coveted leading role is stolen by wealthy rival Alexander. In retaliation, Cecil tackles Alexander in the dressing room, ties him up behind the scenery flats, and goes onstage himself, only to forget his lines and collapse the scenery during the opening act.
- Modern Appliances: Uncle Thomas takes delivery of a modern humming electric refrigerator for the kitchen, sparking superstitious resistance from country cousin Mamie.
- The Three-Day Garage Poker Tournament: Mamie's romantic dilemma between bumbling Oscar and smooth-talking city playboy Garrett Gilroy ('GG') leads Sally to suggest settling the dispute with a three-day, high-stakes poker tournament in the garage. Mamie outplays the suitors, draws the high card, and declares her single independence.
