Undated Broadcasts Project — Cecil and Sally Summer 1932 Arc
Continuing our chronological resolution across the 1928–1933 syndicated daily comedy serial Cecil and Sally (starring Johnny Patrick and Helen Troy), This update resolves an additional 50 sequential broadcasts (Sequences 1088 through 1137, representing Episodes 731 through 780).
Airing daily across the West Coast on KPO/KYA and nationwide via transcription discs between May 6 and July 2, 1932, this sequence highlights two major narrative arcs that take Cecil and Sally outside their usual parlor setting:
- The Bumbling Radio Studio Audition: Cecil and Sally travel to a commercial broadcasting studio to audition for a radio serial role. Overcome by red-light stage fright, Cecil coughs into the microphone, Sally drops her script pages across the floor, and Sally spends the following morning fielding calls from friends claiming the director simply wasn't ready for "high dramatic art."
- The Country Farm Road Trip: The young couple take Ben Hur into rural California to visit Grandfather Smith. On the journey, they get lost and receive nonsensical driving directions from a hard-of-hearing turnip farmer. At the farmstead, Sally takes an undignified tumble into an abandoned stone well, emerging soaked in black sludge. Neighboring city speculators assume oil has been struck and swarm the farm with cash offers, only for it to be revealed that farmhand Hank dumped spent motor oil down the well. Grandfather Smith uses clever country legal maneuvering to keep the cash deposit while releasing the worthless well.
Reaching 2,139 broadcasts resolved in the master project ledger, each entry features verified daily airdates, standardized comedy taxonomy, and pure narrative synopses.
