Undated Broadcasts Project — Cecil and Sally Autumn 1932 Arc
Continuing our chronological resolution across the 1928–1933 syndicated daily comedy serial Cecil and Sally (starring Johnny Patrick and Helen Troy), This update resolves an additional 50 sequential broadcasts (Sequences 1188 through 1237, representing Episodes 831 through 880).
Airing daily across the West Coast on KPO/KYA and nationwide via transcription discs between August 31 and October 27, 1932, this sequence plunges the beloved serial into one of its most suspenseful, high-stakes narrative arcs:
- The Boxing Grudge Match: After getting knocked out by rival Alexander, Cecil joins a gritty gym to master boxing. He spars with Uncle Thomas in the kitchen and gives his uncle an accidental black eye. Banker Mr. Luker and Uncle Thomas place a fifty-dollar wager on the grudge match, prompting Mrs. Mason to offer Cecil a secret fifty-dollar bribe to throw the bout.
- The Tramp Gus / Augustus Butterworth Revelation: Sally invites a ragged wood-chopping vagrant named Gus into the kitchen for warm fruit pie. When unexpected visitor Mrs. Mason opens the pantry door and sees Gus, she shrieks and collapses in a dead faint. Gus reveals he is Augustus Butterworth—Mrs. Mason's long-lost husband and the true father of Agnes.
- The Dutton Farm Murder Mystery: Augustus Butterworth goes missing. Cecil and Sally place newspaper classifieds and drive out past a spooky gas station into the countryside to search the abandoned Dutton Farm. Trapped in the dark attic, they pry the door open only for Cecil to find Augustus Butterworth lying dead on the staircase—murdered. The county erupts in a homicide investigation featuring muddy crime-scene footprints, banker Mr. Luker lurking on the property, and Cousin Mamie Snodgrass weeping as she confesses she too was present when the fatal shot was fired.
Reaching 2,239 broadcasts resolved in the master project ledger, each entry features verified daily airdates, standardized comedy taxonomy, and pure narrative synopses.
