Undated Broadcasts Project — The Wedding of Cecil and Sally & 2,500 Milestone
With the completion of This update (50 broadcasts, Sequences 1488 through 1537), the master undated resolution program crosses 2,539 broadcasts resolved and reaches the defining narrative zenith of the entire series: the long-awaited church wedding of Cecil and Sally.
Covering the autumn 1933 sequence of Cecil and Sally (starring Johnny Patrick and Helen Troy) on KPO/KYA and nationwide transcription syndication from August 16 to October 12, 1933, this cohort resolves Episodes 1131 through 1180.
This historic cohort brings to fruition the central courtship that captivated millions of Depression-era listeners for over five years:
- The April Clark Breach-of-Promise Crisis: Cecil finds himself ensnared in an accidental engagement with designing April Clark, who files a forty-five-thousand-dollar lawsuit when Cecil refuses to go through with the nuptials. The trial takes an astonishing turn when April's father overhears her bragging from inside a hall closet that the entire suit was a fraudulent extortion scheme, forcing April to withdraw the charges with prejudice.
- The Wedding (Episode 1,173): On October 4, 1933, before a church packed with friends, family, Aunt Bess, and Uncle Thomas, Cecil and Sally take their vows and are officially pronounced husband and wife.
- The Honeymoon Express (Episodes 1,174–1,175): The newlyweds shake rice from their overcoats and board the parlor car of the express train bound for Happy Landing resort, where they outwit an overzealous house detective suspicious of their marriage certificate.
- Setting Up House (Episode 1,180): Back in town, the newlyweds tour downtown apartments, signing a lease on a cozy sunlit third-floor flat to begin their domestic life together.
