Undated Broadcasts Project — Cecil and Sally Newlywed Life Arc
Continuing our chronological resolution across the 1928–1933 syndicated daily comedy serial Cecil and Sally (starring Johnny Patrick and Helen Troy), This update resolves an additional 50 sequential broadcasts (Sequences 1538 through 1587, representing Episodes 1181 through 1230).
Airing daily across the West Coast on KPO/KYA and nationwide via transcription discs between October 13 and December 9, 1933, this cohort chronicles the humor and high drama of Cecil and Sally's early married life:
- Newlywed Domestic Trials: Sally's first home-cooked dinner of rock-hard roast beef and watery potatoes leads to hiring Mrs. Murphy, a domineering housekeeper who quits in a huff before Cecil can fire her. Sally's subsequent shopping sprees severely overdraw their first joint checking account.
- The Doorstep Foundling Baby Bud: Answering a late-night ring, the couple discover an abandoned newborn in a wicker basket. Dr. Shepard diagnoses pneumonia, and when the mother is found drowned in the river, Sally insists on adopting the baby boy, whom they nickname Bud. Facing eviction by a sour landlady, Cecil buys a suburban lot and builds their own family home.
- Aunt Bessie Blue-Eyes on the Radio: To clear his car lot, Cecil sponsors a radio broadcast on station KNUT, where Sally takes the microphone as agony aunt "Aunt Bessie Blue-Eyes," dishing out unsolicited marital advice that leaves Cecil sweating.
- The Murder of Dr. Milton: Facing bills, Sally takes a secretarial job while Cecil plays househusband in an apron. To earn extra cash, they take in suave boarder Dr. Milton. When Milt makes an aggressive advance, Sally drives him away with a revolver. The next morning, Milt is found shot dead in the study. In a frantic bid to protect each other, Sally falsely confesses to the homicide, followed by Cecil falsely confessing and escaping out the window into the night.
